Dallis Bros. Inc., founded in 1913, by brothers, Abe and Morris Dallis. Started
as a house-to-house coffee business. We purchased roasted coffee from major
suppliers, packaged it in bags and ventured by horse through Brooklyn and Queens,
door-to-door.
The horse was replaced by a Model T Ford which allowed us to expand the business.
After 13 years, Abe and Morris decided they wanted to have a greater control
over their coffees and decided to open their own roasting facility. This allowed
the brothers to roast the coffee to their exacting specifications. Along with
the expansion of the business came an expansion of the staff.
In 1954, Morris' son, Herb dallis and son-in-law Ray Gerard, take over the
business.
First addition to the plant built by Morris and Abe. Plant expands to include
new roasting and packaging facilities.
Killer frost in Brazil with earthquake in Guatemala and hurricane damage in
Central America changed the complexion of the coffee business raising the retail
prices from about $1.00 to $4.00 per lb.
Dallis Bros. expanded by acquiring friendly competitors.
In 1982, Herb's son, David, joined the family business. Under his guidance
Dallis Bros., continued to focus on the high quality of its roasts and careful
attention to detail.
David Dallis serves as President of the Specialty Coffee Association of America
(SCAA).
We begin to focus on Estate Grown Coffees. Dallis begins partnerships with
Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Brazil.
"Dallis Bros." becomes "Dallis Coffee" as the company rebrands
itself and upgrades all packaging materials under the new Dallis Coffee "Cupping" logo.
The country's oldest coffee trade publication, Tea & Coffee Journal, names
Herb Dallis "Coffee Man of the Year." Dallis Vice President Jim Munson
is invited to speak at the National Coffee Association on "How to Market
Specialty Coffees" at the National Coffee Association annual meeting in
Florida.

2001 --Dallis partners with Bodum, the world's largest manufacturer of French
Press brewers, to introduce hand-roasted and hand-brewed coffees to the public.
Articles about the business appear in the New York Times, the Dow Jones Newswire,
The Daily News, and FOX TV.

Dallis organizes the Coffee Cares September 11 relief effort at Ground Zero
following the attacks on the World Trade Center. Over 100,000lbs of green and
roasted Specialty Coffee are donated by hundreds of SCAA member roasters and
retailers around the United States.
Dallis completes construction and christens its new Managua, Nicaragua roast
and pack facility, Republic Coffee. This ongoing operation represents an unprecedented
level of involvement by an independent American roaster in a coffee-growing
country's production infrastructure.
David Dallis is honored by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA)
for his "Outstanding Contributions to the Industry" at the annual
conference in Boston. David is also re-elected for a third term as Treasurer
of the American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) in NYC.
At Dallis Coffee, you can learn how to roast. We offer private seminars for
your staff to get hands on roasting experience. Using our in-store 50 pound
batch roaster you will learn not only theory, but you will have the opportunity
to smell the roast, hear the cracks, and watch the beans change from green
to various shades of brown. You can even bring your home model roaster to the
seminar.
